On this episode of “5 Minutes With,” our hosts, Cassia Spurlock and Morgan Yonge, take the time to speak with an inspiring entrepreneur doing great work in our community. In this segment, Cassia and Morgan speak with Steven H. Begleiter of Begleiter Media.
Begleiter Media has been in business since 1982, starting his business in NYC as a photographer. Steven, the owner, went on to author six books and one novel. Saatchi Art represents his award-winning artwork. He is also an adjunct professor at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.
How did you get started in your field or work?
As a photo assistant to Annie Leibovitz and others.
What’s your favorite way to get involved in the community?
I teach afterschool chess to kids in the Denver Public Schools. I also am a member of the American Society of Media Photographers and the Colorado Photographic Art Center, where I have taught kids digital photography.
What are your biggest goals in the next 12 Months for your business?
I want to sell more artwork and promote my novel Leaving Cleveland. My body of work, ” The Magical Habitat of Egrets and Herons,” was shortlisted in the Sony International Photo Competition and Communication Arts and featured in LensWork, a fine art publication.
How do you define success?
Success has always meant creating work that I am passionate about and exciting to other people. It has never really been about making more money. I also love to teach and share my experiences with my students. I often stay in touch with them, and nothing is more uplifting than hearing from them years later thanking me for what I taught them.
