How long have you been in your industry?4
Why did you choose your industry? Before starting RollUp, I had a background in transportation and logistics operations from my time in the Army. We leveraged our experience in industry; RollUp offers on-demand hauling through a streamlined app.
Who are your typical clients?RollUp's typical user base are individuals in the process of moving who are looking for an inexpensive and streamlined solution to get items hauled away or moved.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I love that within the IT industry, many of the AI technologies being developed are expected to revolutionize how the world operates. We are living in a time similar to when the internet had been introduced but had not yet permeated into every industry.
What are common problems you see?RollUp is designed to solve the inefficiencies and frustrations associated with finding reliable, affordable, and flexible hauling and junk removal services. On the other side, independent haulers and small businesses often struggle to find a consistent flow of jobs, compete with larger companies, and manage the administrative burden of customer acquisition, scheduling, and negotiation.
What advice/tips do you have for clients? For users looking to get rid of items, I would recommend being clear and detailed in your Job posts. Clearly describe the items you need hauled or moved, including sizes, quantities, and any special handling requirements. This helps Haulers understand the complexity of a Job before either accepting it or submitting a counteroffer.
When is your busy season? Our busy season is during "Spring Cleaning" and the Summer.
What keeps you up at night?I continue to think where we attracting enough Customers and Haulers to achieve the critical mass needed for a thriving two-sided marketplace. Also I am obsessed with optimizing our app so users having a good enough experience to keep coming back and recommend the platform to others.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? Our business is in the process of launching an affiliate marketing program, whereby affiliates or social media influencers can share the app in return for earnings.
How involved are you in the community?I am involved in the local Colorado Springs small business community, providing insight into some of the early things one can do in a business to help kick it off.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity? The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW)
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? My best recommendation before getting into software development is to learn how to leverage AI powered tools. We have found that, while a technical background is very important, not knowing how to leverage AI tools will put a company behind the power curve.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?In my free time I love to go hiking and take my firearms out to the range.
